Who Why How

The challenges our planet faces are huge and growing fast; from climate change and biodiversity destruction to child labour and workers’ rights, our world is at risk in many ways.

We believe in the power of farmers, business, government and non-profits working together to effect the profound change our world needs. We believe farming can be climate smart, deforestation free and pollinator friendly. We believe in protecting water, air, forests and biodiversity. We believe in the inalienable rights of all human beings to be treated fairly. We believe we can transform agriculture for the greater good of all.

Our vision of the world is one where agricultural activity contributes to biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods. To make it happen, we work directly with farmers, companies, donors and other organizations to accelerate and deepen the positive impact we can make as partners on a journey of change.

With experience in over 40 countries and with more than 100 crops, SAN provides innovative, practical and credible agricultural solutions to some of the most pressing environmental and social problems of our time. At SAN we see clear opportunities to transform agriculture, from the farms themselves, up and through the associated agricultural value chains; we are an accelerator of the positive change that is needed.

SAN is an international network of NGOs focused on helping companies, producers and donors to move forward with their sustainability agenda in a practical and efficient way. We can be a powerful and effective ally to achieve and monitor goals, to transform agricultural practices and to create value on the ground.

We are proud to be a member-led organization combining global and local reach. We hold ourselves accountable for living and delivering our values in all we do. Farms for the future

Farms for the Future is a program designed to deliver positive impact on the ground by supporting farmers to achieve specific sustainability goals and by providing transparency regarding their performance

Farms for the Future is underpinned by our Sustainable Agriculture Framework (SAN-SAF) and supported by our unique technological platform, the SAN Intelligence Hub (iHub).

SAN Sustainable Agriculture Framework (SAN-SAF)

This innovative and customizable management tool facilitates a combination of elements of verification and support. It is a modular and outcome-based approach that offers multiple advantages for the sustainable management of productive systems, as it is designed to easily assess progress towards impacts goals. The tool covers the 10 areas of impact in which SAN works. Each area includes various sustainability goals, which are composed of expected outcomes and performance indicators, to demonstrate achievement. However, each organization or supply chain can choose the set of topics or indicators to work. The customized implementation of SAF indicators through SAN’s Solutions allows it to be complementary with other existing sustainability programs, and even incorporating specific topics and indicators that are of particular interest to a buyer

Intelligence Hub

iHub Overview

  • Data management can be a key driver in major shifts within the food production systems: Having useful and accurate data can help producers and other actors in the food supply chain. It can be used to provide insights, drive real-time decisions and redesign entire systems to meet both the market and sustainability demands.

  • The iHub gives SAN, and organizations, a mechanism to identify best practices that farmers need help with, and then helps guide that support to the right farmer audiences. Organizations can monitor progress towards outcomes and impacts on the iHub dashboard, and can design their own analysis and reporting features.

The iHub offers many advantages such as:

  • Ability to collect specific information from all operations as a baseline and gradually update this data.

  • Ability to include areas, land uses and polygon drawings from operations.

  • Management of groups of farms.

  • Visualization of the whole operation in hierarchical charts and location maps.

  • Ability to work with online/offline capabilities to perform evaluations in the field.

  • Addition of custom schemes and indicators for creating different types of evaluation tools.

  • Customizable baseline forms, compliance checklists and reports.

  • Ability to monitor the organization’s performance through dashboards and metrics.
