Technical Manager

Oliver coordinates the SAN initiatives on Sustainable Landscapes and Agrochemical Impacts Reduction (iAIR) and manages the collaboration with the Oregon State University’s Integrated Plant Protection Center (IPPC).

Oliver directed the standards and policy development for the SAN/Rainforest Alliance certification system for almost 11 years. His coordination of SAN Standard setting processes resulted in the adaptation of the SAN Sustainable Agriculture Standard for more than 100 crops in almost 50 countries. He also managed the development of a standard for sustainable cattle production systems, a new stepwise approach for continuous improvement, and science-based policies for pesticide risk management.

Oliver earned his M.Sc. in Wildlife Management and Conservation from the Universidad Nacional (UNA) in Costa Rica with a recognition for academic excellence.

Before his time at SAN, Oliver worked at UNA’s Regional Institute for the Study of Toxic Substances (IRET) and the International Institute for Wildlife Management and Conservation (ICOMVIS), and he created the M.Sc. program for Natural Resource Conservation at UNED (Costa Rica). Oliver serves as SAN representative on the IMP Coalition and the the Global Living Wage Coalition. He has worked and lived in Germany and Costa Rica, where he is currently based.
