Circular Bioeconomy Alliance

The CBA was established by His Majesty King Charles III to accelerate the transition to a circular bioeconomy that is climate neutral, inclusive and prospers in harmony with nature.

Mission Statement

The CBA aims to put nature at the center of the economy by applying a circular bioeconomy framework that uses renewable natural capital to holistically transform and manage land, food, health, industrial systems and cities.

Work Scope

The CBA’s activities aim to raise awareness, inspire action towards a circular bioeconomy, and deliver transformational impact by:

  • Advancing and sharing knowledge: scaling learning-to-action by supporting research, communication and capacity building through leading experts, rigorous scientific frameworks and data and inclusive programs.

  • Connecting and facilitating: involving investors to bring the circular bioeconomy from niche to norm, developing targeted global-to-local partnerships to advance global efforts through a diverse network of leading scientists, pioneering corporations, indigenous communities, campaigning organizations and public institutions, spearheaded by King Charles III.

  • Activating and demonstrating the transformative potential of landscape restoration and circular bioeconomy value chains through a global network of Living Labs that blend science, technology and indigenous knowledge.

Living Labs

The CBA’s Living Labs are part of the EFI-led initiative which ran from 2020 to September 2023. The new CBA charity is currently scoping new Living Labs for 2024. By using a landscape restoration project as the starting point, each Living Lab aimsto demonstrate that investing in nature and empowering local and indigenous communities can catalyze the development of circular bioeconomy value chains while restoring biodiversity and local livelihoods, creating regenerative landscapes and resilient communities.

Based on public-private partnerships, Living Labs aim to place local communities at the center, empower people in a concrete territorial context, integrate their traditional knowledge, and capitalize on new research and innovation.
