Chris Wille

Chief Executive Officer

Chris Wille, a seasoned biologist and journalist, brings lifelong experience in wildlife conservation and sustainability. He co-founded the Rainforest Alliance in 1987, initiating key field programs in Costa Rica. In the early 1990s, Wille led a coalition to develop the first guidelines for sustainable agriculture, forming the Sustainable Agriculture Network. Serving in the Rainforest Alliance until 2014, he transitioned to consulting and, now semi-retired, remains dedicated to supporting farmers on sustainable and regenerative pathways. Wille advocates for organizations like the Sustainable Agriculture Network, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture.

José Joaquín Campos

Secretary and Treasurer

José Joaquín Campos Arce, SAN’s Executive Director since May 2019, brings over 40 years of international development, science, and education experience. With a background in sustainable forest management and rural development, he served as the Director General of CATIE from 2008 to 2016. José has held key leadership roles, including Chair of the Board of Trustees of CIFOR. He holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford and has authored numerous technical and scientific papers.
