The past week has brought a wave of initiatives from SAN members across the globe. From participatory climate monitoring in Colombia to agroecological planning in Uganda and bold rice innovations in West Africa, our network continues to champion sustainable agriculture through collective action. Here's a look at some of the most impactful stories from the SAN community.
🔬 Showcasing Science and Engaging Youth
CABI continues its dynamic outreach with hands-on education and awareness on invasive species. In the UK, their team engaged young people in spotting biocontrol agents like weevils used against aquatic invaders such as Azolla and Floating pennywort. CABI also raised awareness about the destructive impact of Golden apple snails, an invasive species threatening ecosystems and crops across Asia and Africa.

🌾 Resilient Rice and Regional Agroecology Leadership
CORAF made several significant strides this week to address climate-related challenges in West and Central Africa.
The organization is advancing a bold strategy to revitalize rice production by combining hybrid irrigated rice varieties with the System of Rice Intensification (SRI), a method that boosts yields while conserving water and inputs. If you speak French, check out this video showcasing the demonstration plots in Senegal.

CORAF is also investing in agroecology, strengthening the capacities of RADiUS consortium members to effectively roll out sustainable farming projects across the region, and implementing integrated pest management strategies to combat Hassids, a major pest affecting crops in Burkina Faso.
🌿 Rethinking Cotton for Regeneration
The Circular Bioeconomy Alliance, in collaboration with EFI, Pretaterra, and CREA, released a publication highlighting how regenerative agroforestry-based cotton systems could restore Mediterranean landscapes while supporting rural livelihoods.
Cotton Connect joined the conversation on resilience, with a focus on smart pest management for healthier cotton during vulnerable growth stages, the impact of climate change on the 2025 cropping season and climate-resilient water strategies.
🌎 Local Monitoring and Global Biodiversity at Work
Fundación Natura Colombia made a powerful case for community science and participatory climate action. Through meetings with local monitors in Santander, the organization highlighted how farm-level data can inform better decision-making. They also hosted a launch event for Departmental Climate Change Scenarios.
☘️ Rights of Nature and Regenerative Futures in Ecuador
Fundación Pachamama celebrated two judicial victories that reaffirmed constitutional protections for ecosystems, demonstrating how legal frameworks can be used to uphold the intrinsic rights of rivers and forests. In a powerful message shared on Pachamama Day, Fundación Pachamama reminded followers that "Mother Earth doesn’t need to be saved—she needs to be respected," underscoring the importance of restoring harmony with the natural world through indigenous knowledge, solidarity, and cultural reconnection. As July came to a close, the Foundation also hightlighted that over 200 entrepreneurs received specialized training in to strenghten their ecological businesses.

🌱Soil, Seeds, and Sovereignty in Peru
RAAA Perú marked Pachamama Day with messages honoring Earth as a source of food sovereignty. Other highlights included a compost workshop with Yachachiq from Foncodes in the Central Jungle, and discussions on their social media advicing against the expansion of unregulated avocado cultivation and advocating to regulate aerial spray drift.

🌎 A Global Movement
This week’s stories reflect the breadth of SAN’s global impact network—from technical innovation to indigenous rights, climate-smart solutions to biodiversity. As we look ahead to 2030, these efforts align directly with SAN’s Strategic Goals of advancing nature-based solutions, empowering communities, and driving systemic transformation in agriculture.
