Partners
The project was led by the SAN Secretariat in coordination with Biodiversity CIAT International, with SAN Member organizations engaged through structured consultation led by the Secretariat. This collaborative approach ensured the mapping reflects on-the-ground realities, aligns with partner priorities, and is ready for use across the ISEAL network.

Beneficiaries
ISEAL network actors—standards bodies, companies, and partners—who used GEASIL to strengthen M&E on gender; program/M&E teams needing ready indicators; and, indirectly, women in agri-food communities as initiatives targeted and tracked outcomes more accurately.
About the project
The agri-food sector is moving beyond “traditional” gender metrics, which often miss the real, complex links between gender equality and sustainable agriculture. This project mapped the best available gender-responsive monitoring tools and approaches so ISEAL network actors—standards bodies, private companies, and partners—can more accurately recognize and track changes in gender equality and women’s rights, and connect those insights to their own strategies for building sustainable, resilient food systems.
Outcomes
Using a scoping review with the CGIAR Gender Equality Initiative, SAN assessed 33 recent resources from corporates to development agencies and curated more than 1,500 gender-related indicators. The result is the Gender Equality in Agrifood Systems: Indicator List (GEASIL)—an illustrative tool that helps agri-food stakeholders monitor and report on gender awareness, responsiveness, and transformation across programs and projects.
