About the project

SAN, working within the IPM Coalition, developed the Pesticide & Alternatives mobile app to cut pesticide use and risk by putting independent toxicity data, standards restrictions, and safer options in the hands of field decision-makers. Responding to widespread HHP use, limited connectivity, and information gaps, the app built on the Coalition’s database and delivered online/offline access in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, including less-toxic, registered alternatives for Brazil, Colombia, India, Mexico, and Kenya. The project also conducted training and on-the-ground pilot testing to validate usability and drive adoption.

Outcomes

The project reduced the use of highly hazardous pesticides across farms, fields, and forests within IPM Coalition reach by giving technicians offline/online access to independent toxicity profiles and registered, lower-risk alternatives. In Brazil, Colombia, India, Mexico, and Kenya, agronomists used this decision-ready information to choose least-toxic pest control options and improve on-the-ground IPM performance.
